Wow. What I Learned Today. The Eating Disorder

~~~~ Sympathetic
In English we've been working on projects that fit the "Miami Image" and my group chose eating disorders. It's been recorded that anywhere between 10 - 20% of the girls and 5 - 10% of the boys at Miami have an eating disorder. I decided to do some extra research and found dozens of pro-anorexia sites (known as pro-ana sites on google). It was really quite shocking, but I think I'm a closet-psychiatrist and I went to check them out to see what they were all about. They were all aware that anorexia and bullimia in all their forms are eating disorders but they were just willing to accept that they have a problem and let it control their lives. Now, I am a firecly independent person and I couldn't imagine anything, be it boys, tobacco, alcohol, or eating disorders, controlling my life but me. So I don't really understand what they're going through.
All the sites I visited had one thing in common (other than the obvious). They all had a section called something along the lines of "when you've gone too far." Pro-ana sites have links to the websites offering help to those who have eating diorders and are on the brink of disaster. That really surprised me. I expected all these sites to be "proclaiming the beauty of an eating disorder and encouraging all to come to the light side because that's where salvation and beauty truly lie." Or perhaps there have just been too many Jehovah's Witnesses at my door. Anyways, I definitley didn't expect them to be offering help to get out of the diseases they were promoting. It seemed to me like it was along the lines of Bush telling everyone to vote for John Kerry. It just doesn't happen. Anyways, needless to say, it turned out my pro-ana search ended up at anti-ana sites. And then I found this one.
The actualy site is entitled Something Fishy and it's a site for loved ones to identify eating disorders and help those who need it. But there's a link on the site that really touched me and I wanted to share it. In Loving Memory is a memorial of people lost to an eating disorder. I was stunned as to the magnetutde of people that have died. I've always known that eating disorders were potentiall fatal but you never hear of anyone who has actually died from one. It's just not really talked about.
You May Be Lost, But You Aren't Forgotten.
Oh My Gosh
~~~~ Indescribable

9 days left of school. Yeah, I can count that on my fingers. Not sure how I feel about that. Right now I wanna say not happy.

~~~~ Satisfied
What a summer so far. I got a job at Tumbleweed. I'm a hostess. The money isn't that great but it isn't the Wooster Brush Company so I don't care. I haven't heard back from BW3's yet but I'm thinking I might take the job there too. I don't think I'll be working as many hours at Tumbleweed as I would like and I think I'd be working at the same time at either place so I might be able to handle it. We'll see when they call. I'll ask what times and how many hours they'd be expecting me to work and if it seems to work out I'll take it. Plus, if I end up hating one place or the other I could always quit and still have a job.
I have come to one conclusion though. I make bad decisions during the summer. Thank you for listening.
I want to go to Cedar Point and an Indians Game this summer. Those are my big plans. In other words, I'm gonna be working A LOT.
Season Finale of Lost in two days :) I can't wait to see what happens.
I have over 30 credits now so I can apply to AUC :) Oh I'm so excited!
The Light of the Fading Star
~~~~ Cold

What a weekend! Friday we went to Johnny Rockets for dinner. Yum, I love their egg salad sandwhiches! Then we shopped around the Cincinnatti Mills Mall. I spent entirely too much money on one hand but on the other hand I did only buy a pair of cropped pants and flip flops. I think it's because I paid for dinner I feel like I spent too much. That won't be happening again. I love my cropped pants though. I have to get some more of those. Then we came back to MU and went to a beach bash. It was fucktastic. We tie-dyed t-shirts, got henna tatoos (I finally got to get one on my hand... vines in honor of the Green Man), and won a fish for Steffie! She named him Che. He's a little goldfish and oh-so adorable. The best part? It was alllll free! Sometimes MU loves us and sometimes it doesn't. Friday night? It loved us! Then we came back to the dorm and watched the Newsies. Saturday we went to Bob Evans for breakfast, washed the tie-dyed t-shirts we made, watched Lost, went to Panera Bread for dinner, went to Old Navy and a book store in Hamilton (I didn't buy anything, you should be so proud of me), and got a little lost coming back home. The Mapquest directions were a little confusing and we ended up going two wrong ways before we figured it out but we got home and that's all that mattered. Then we came back to MU and had a bonfire. Good for the soul! :D Then we ate ice cream and watched some more Lost. We haven't done much today. We're going to Kofenya later to work on some homework and a double soy white mocha is definitley calling me but we have to wait until Steffie gets back from dance. I really think I need to get out of this room! I don't have much homework to work on but there is a paper due Wednesday I could get started on and some other misc. things to do but nothing imperative. So yeah, all-in-all a good weekend. I can't believe this was the last normal weekend. I only have 11 days left. Two days and I'll be in the single digits. That's so weird.

I Heart People

~~~~ Frustrated
Oh No...
This could quite possibly be the most frustrating class scheduling I'll ever experience. I just can't seem to win. All the classes I want / need to take have already been filled. I've had some sucess with force-adds but I think I'll need to depend on them a lot more. I don't want to but I'm desperate. Yeah, most people don't care this much but I do and I have problems. And to make the day even worse, the Indians are losing horribly... of course. :(
Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain Wooster High School Style...
How Ironic...
~~~~ Hopeful

We were just talking about this in English class. Good point...

The parentals come tomorrow. I get to get rid of some of this stuff and the parentals get to drive me around. No English Friday and I'm skipping my History Discussion Group so I only have four classes left this week. Yay! Antonio Banderas movie weekend and possibly a Wally visit but I'm not counting on it. It's Wally, enough said.

am I now allowed to say I'm excited to go to Botany tomorrow because I think Luke is really cute? oh, I hope so because I just did.

How Ironic...

~~~~ Crushed
Bad moments come but they go
Some days are fine, some a little bit harder
But that doesn't mean
We should give up our dream
Have you ever seen
Me defeated?
Don't you forget what I've been through and yet
I'm still standing.
I Met Anthony Rapp
~~~~ Relaxed

Oh it was one of the best experiences of my life! I've been following Rent since I was in the fifth grade and Anthony Rapp has always stood out to me as one of the best actors in the entire production. And he actually came to Miami and I got to hear him speak and read parts of his book. Then he offered a book signing and he signed my book. "hi Megan - Anthony Rapp" And then I stuck my hand out there and said "It was nice to meet you" and he shook it! Seriously my life has been changed forever, is that bad? The experience has been marked forever in history here. Unfortunatley, Steffie couldn't get her camera to work when I approached him so there's no momentous marking of my visit with him but the nice little scribble in my book is all I need.

Seriously? I was that close. Enough said.

Tomorrow...

~~~~ Tired
Tomorrow is a lot of things. Tomorrow in one month I'll be leaving Miami for the summer. May 4th I go home. Gosh, that's so soon. Tomorrow I have some important things to decide. But tomorrow Brokeback Mountain also come out on dvd... *cheers* :D
Today was too much. I woke up at 8:15 and went to Western Civ. We talked about the Russian Revolution... oh can my professor get excited when we talk about anything having to do with Russia! Then I did my history homework in the library until Italian. Sante happily announced that sooner than later the entire world would be speaking English and we are infact learning Italian for nothing and he has wasted his entire life teaching a language that will be gone someday. :confused: He was kidding... I think. Then it was cold and rainy and overall quite yucky so I got a grilled cheese sandwhich and tomato soup from Bell Tower... yay for comfort food! :laugh: After lunch was English where we talked about illegal immigration... that's one issue I don't have a deifinite stance on. Those people need help and I want them to come here and find opportunities. But they are illegal maybe it's just the bad connotation of the word. Or maybe I just think the government should make the U.S. Citizens test easier because I took a practice version of it (it was online, I wondered if I could pass it since I was born here and will never know) and I've lived here all my life and I still failed. :( Now, how are people who are just coming here to find better opportunities suppose to invest the time, effort, and money to take the test and become a U.S. Citizen? I feel bad for them and I think they should be allowed to stay. That's my story.
Anywhoo, then I went to the library to get homework done and start studying for my Botany Exam that's tomorrow. Three hours and one Bell Tower smoothie later I had all my homework done plus a pretty extensive study guide for my exam. Then I went to the review session for Botany and after that got a sanwhich from the market for dinner. I'm feeling pretty good about this exam. Most of this stuff is still review from A.P. Biology so I just need to keep it fresh in my mind and I'll be good to go. Probably gonna go take a shower soon. I guess I'll be going to bed early tonight because I've run out of things to do. The Story of the Stone is just as good a book as Bridge of Birds and I may finish it tonight. But then Eight Skilled Gentlemen isn't in yet so I might not have a book to read! :p That's a travesty for me!
I Can't Believe Actually Bought a Fish
~~~~ Happy

Well I did it. I gave in and bought myself a pet fish. Not sure why. I've never wanted to own a fish before. But I do. My first fish, a beta. Ooooooh goodness.
